Movies

True confession time: Tracie and Taylor have got me watching Hallmark mystery movies.  In the beginning, I’ll admit, I thought maybe me watching four or five Mystery 101s would get me a family screening of Lawrence of Arabia.  (The investment of time is roughly the same.)  But I’ll admit, I actually enjoy the movies themselves. …

Bloating

My plate was as full as my heart yet again this Thanksgiving. The difference was, my plate did not remain full. It emptied out. True, it filled up again, but that problem was rectified soon enough.
In my 50s, I’ve discovered this shovel-as-flatware approach to dining brings a different sort of fullness. And this one is not quite so satisfying. And it lingers longer, too.

Heaven or hell: You choose

In heaven you will find holiness; in hell you will find wickedness and impurity (Revelation 22:14-15).

In heaven you will find those who obeyed the gospel; in hell you will find those who did not (2 Thessalonians 1:6-10).

In heaven you will find Jesus (John 14:3); in hell you will find the devil and his agents (2 Peter 2:4).

Would an idiot do that?

One of the speakers at my nephew’s recent graduation quoted Dwight Schrute, a character from The Office (because no one on television has said anything worth quoting in the last ten years).  Dwight said, “Whenever I’m about to do something, I ask myself, ‘Would an idiot do that?’’  And if they would, I do not do that thing.”

As simple and irrefutable as that logic is, I can’t help thinking it is needful in our day and time.
